Common Mac Problems: 6 Issues with DIY Solution

You have noticed that your once-robust performance MacBook is now becoming slower in its overall performance. As a result, you are increasingly thinking of upgrading to a new system. But before you proceed ahead with such steps, you should try a few steps that might resolve the common Mac problems you are facing. It costs you nothing. So give it a try before spending money on a new device. 

  1. External Drive Not Showing Up

Most of the time, we are confident that the external hard drive will mount on the desktop whenever it is connected via a USB port in the MacBook. But what if your Mac external hard drive not showing up? You are in a hurry to transfer some files from the external drive to your MacBook, and such scenarios can make you worrisome. The presence of corrupt data could be one of the reasons your Mac does not recognize the external drive. However, there could be other reasons such as power supply issues, cable not working correctly, or an NTFS read-only problem. Other reasons could be the presence of a damaged USB port or an incorrectly formatted drive too.

  1. Start-up Issue in Mac

As years pass by, one of the common issues you face is the MacBook displaying a blank screen while booting. The first thing to do would be to reboot the MacBook in ‘Safe Mode. One of the advantages of booting the MacBook in safe mode is that the system will use only minimal resources such as drivers and software to boot the MacBook. The macOS will also run a health check within the start-up disk to find out and repair the issues that might be causing the start-up problem in Mac. Next, you will have to click the Power button and press and hold down the Shift key. It will display the Apple logo, followed by the login screen. Next, you will have to wait for the Apple Logo to disappear. Only then the Shift key should be released.

  1. Battery Issues in MacBook

Many users face the issue of battery draining quickly in their Mac system. Charging the battery is of utmost necessity for the MacBook to work correctly without any interruptions. There could be various reasons why the battery is draining quickly in your MacBook. Some of the common reasons include using a MacBook for a more extended period without plugging in the charger, application consumption since some of the applications of larger file sizes may take a lot of battery for working correctly, and even browser access for a long time can also cause the battery to drain faster. One of the solutions to resolve the battery drainage would be to make the background apps idle, which will save the battery. Similarly, you should ensure that the Bluetooth is turned off. If it is turned on, it may also cause the battery to drain quickly. You can also navigate to System Preferences, where you can minimize the time taken for the system to go into sleep mode. You will have to choose the ‘Energy Saver’ option in the System Preferences for changing this setting.

  1. Kernel Panic Issue in MacBook

You might have noticed that, at times, your Mac computer may restart automatically. Then an error message will be displayed saying the computer restarted because of a problem. Next, you will have to get into the problem for fixing it. Some of the most common causes for this problem include the presence of faulty software, damaged or incompatible hardware, and inconsistent external storage media. Finally, if the issue still does not resolve, you will have to try uninstallation of the plug-ins or any third-party software applications that could be causing this issue.

Further, you will have to update the applications in Mac as they might have become out-dated. Other troubleshooting steps include restarting the MacBook in safe mode, disconnecting external devices other than Apple products. You can also run Apple Diagnostics to identify the problem with the MacBook’s internal hardware, such as the logic board, wireless devices and memory, etc.

  1. Apps are frozen

If you are in a situation where some of the applications you were working on become unresponsive, then one of the solutions to resolve the issue would be to Force Quit the application by navigating to the Force Quit menu displayed on the top-left of the Apple icon. Now you can try restarting the application again and check whether there is any need for updating the application or not.

  1. Avoid Data Clogging by Deleting the Cache

Your Mac computer might slow down whenever data clogging occurs in the computer and results in slowing down of the computer and also results in other performance issues. You will have to navigate to the Library folder and remove the unwanted cache files and folders that comprise of junk data.

Conclusion

The solutions mentioned above for common MacBook problems will resolve most of the performance issues you are facing. If still, the issues do not resolve, then you can take your MacBook to your nearest Apple Service Center or choose to upgrade towards a new Mac device.
