How Games are Making the World a Better Place: 8 reasons

Games like printable sports authority coupons 2015 are a powerful tool that can be used to change the world. It’s more than simply fun and games – these computer-based puzzles, simulations, and virtual worlds can teach us new skills, build up our confidence and make the world a better place. Read on to find out how you can use video games constructively in your life.

1.) They Teach You New Skills:

You don’t have to get sh*tty grades in school – or any grades at all! – if you just want to learn new skills without hassle with games such as Minecraft or The Sims. Your parents may not be too happy with you skipping class, but they’ll definitely be more supportive if you think of a way to explain that what you’re doing is just an educational endeavor.

2.) They Build Your Confidence:

Let’s face it – there are a lot of people in this world that can make you feel like crap about yourself (pardon the language – but hey, we all know how it feels to be insulted). But through playing games where we have a sense of control and power over our fates and those of others, we can build our confidence by succeeding in situations where others might have given up. This can help us persevere in the face of adversity in real life.

3.) They Make You Smarter:

Did you know that playing strategy games like chess can make your brain better at making decisions? Or that playing The Sims can increase your emotional intelligence and understanding of relationships? And that action video games can help you develop spatial skills, like the ability to visualize objects in three dimensional space to understand the distances and angles between them? By playing games, we’re working out our brains – just like weight training builds our muscles.

4.) They Provide Perspective:

By taking on a different perspective in-game (such as someone of another gender or race), we can gain more insight into other people’s lives. By playing games, we can learn about real-world struggles of people in other places or countries. Sometimes, this perspective can help us empathize with people who have been given less fortunate circumstances in life; or challenge our own assumptions and preconceived notions.

5.) They Make You More Comfortable:

Most kids get to feel like they’re in a game when they play video games – but the fact is that a lot of the time, you’re actually awake when you play them. Video games help people learn how to deal with anxiety by taking them out of their comfort zones, exploring new and exciting environments, and meeting new challenges that force them to adapt to change.

6.) Games Make You More Likable:

Compared to some people, far too many people are introverted and shy. And what’s worse, is that when we’re talking to them, they hide behind their computers and smartphones so that they can avoid these awkward social situations. A lot of us hate video games for putting us into a fantasy world where we can do things that we would never dream of in real life. When it comes to interactions with other people, though, playing games can make you more likable by helping you become more curious and outgoing. Sometimes, the best way to break down social barriers is just to get better at talking to other people.

7.) They Help You Build Better Real-Life Relationships:

I know I’m probably dating myself here, but in the early ‘90s, a lot of popular games such as Half-Life and Counterstrike were about helping us develop relationships by acquiring territory and winning battles. Same goes for games like The Sims – playing these games can teach you how to have better relationships with things (such as furniture, pets or even your family members) and make friends with new people in your life.

8.) They Can Make the World a Better Place:

I’m sure you’ve all heard of the idea that gamers tend to be antisocial and violent. The truth is, we can use games to show us different perspectives, change our behavior and help others in need. For example, we can give money in-game or take part in events that benefit other people. We can also use games to learn about cultural differences or different causes and disparities in our local community. Or we could even start a hunger strike for world peace for all I know 🙂

Conclusion:

While there are certainly a lot of ways video games can benefit us, they also have their negative aspects too. There’s no denying the fact that society is becoming more reliant on technology as we move forward – and as a society, we need to determine how best to use new technologies such as video games.

Truly, there are just so many positive sides to playing games – and I think it’s about time systems start being put in place for educators and others who want to use video games constructively too.
