The Surprising Truth About Is Marijuana Legal in Aruba.

What is marijuana legal in aruba?

Marijuana legal in aruba is illegal, but is often sold openly by the island’s “drug lords” who operate in plain sight. Marijuana is illegal. Possession of small quantities (under five grams) will result in a warning and confiscation of the drugs. Possession with intent to supply: maximum sentence 15 years imprisonment or $1,000 fine or both; possession on school property: maximum sentence ten years imprisonment or $200 fine or both. The penalty for trafficking (10 kg or more) is life imprisonment with no possibility of parole for at least five years.

Under Dutch law, marijuana is illegal. Possession of less than half an ounce can result in a maximum sentence of one year and should the police find you in possession you will be arrested and if convicted face a maximum sentence of two years. In addition, carrying up to 1 gram can result in a fine. The legal age to buy or possess marijuana, however, is 21 and it may not be consumed in public.

What is the use?

You have to be 21 to buy, use and possess marijuana. According to an American couple who were visiting Aruba, there are no longer any stores selling weed on the island. Those that were found there — before will be arrested; those that are currently still in business just sell hash, the resin that comes off marijuana plants.

How to consume them?

There are no shops in the country that provide marijuana. There are the ‘drug lords’ of course who will sell it. I don’t know if you can find it in restaurants or not. It’s illegal to smoke publicly but people do it anyway. Nowadays, it’s all hashish and there aren’t any shops that sell marijuana; the drug lords sell it openly, so if you go to those areas, they will sell you cannabis.”

Aruba is part of The Netherlands Antilles and thus under Dutch law. Possession for personal use (1 gram or less) usually results in a fine, but offenders may be imprisoned for up to 4 years and/or face mandatory community service. Every private resident who is caught with less than 15 grams of marijuana will be fined $100. Any individual who is caught with more than 15 grams or 2 per cent THC will face a penalty of up to $500 depending on the circumstances.

Possession of 1 gram or less for commercial purposes (such as selling the drugs) can result in 3 years’ imprisonment, 1 year’s incarceration and/or $2,000 fine, and possession of more than 1 gram but no more than 5 grams can lead to a maximum sentence of one year in prison and/or a fine between $1,000 and $2,000.

Are there any side effects?

It’s illegal to smoke publicly. There are no bars or restaurants here where marijuana is openly smoked, so I can’t answer that question. Anyone caught with less than 15 grams of marijuana will be fined $100 and any individual who is caught with more than 15 grams or 2% THC faces a penalty of up to $500 depending on the circumstances.

Under Aruban law possession of less than 5 grams is not an offense; however the famous neon sign known as The Green Mile refers to an area where marijuana is sold openly in Aruba.

Are there any prescriptions?

Maybe in an emergency room where they can do something to make your heartbeat slow down; I think some hospitals have them — but they are illegal. The use is for medicinal purposes. There are no hard penalties for a first offense, but penalties increase for each subsequent offense.
