It seems like these days, everyone is talking about healthy eating. There are commercials with famous athletes who talk about the benefits of a vegetarian diet, and articles published in glossy magazines telling you how to cook a healthy meal for your family. These are all attempts by businesses to make money by convincing people they need something they don’t.

But at the same time, this one thing is almost universally agreed upon: people love to hate healthy food. UW health uconnect is a huge part of this. This is a website that posts daily tips for people to use the best information and advice available to them in order to make their lives healthier. If you are looking for a diet pill, or a quick fix for a health issue, you won’t find it here.

The truth is that there are many things that make people love and hate eating healthy food — everything from reading recipes and enjoying cooking (or not) to changing dietary habits and feeling deprived

Things That Make You Love Healthy Food :

1. Cooking and Eating Healthy Food

Making food look good and tasting great can be enough to make you happy. There’s nothing better than standing over a hot stove and turning out a meal that tastes so good you don’t need a plate or fork. The smell of fresh herbs wafts through the house while the oven is heating up. You get to put your own creative spin on a recipe, using fresh produce ingredients that you’ve grown yourself or bought organic (and are thrilled with how they taste). You have a sense of accomplishment as you cook and eat, knowing that every ingredient was healthy, nutritious and good for you.

2. Reading Healthy Recipes

This goes along with the last one real nicely; reading recipes on healthy food and feeling happy while doing so, watching the food come together in front of you, seeing all the ingredients go into it! This is a good way to learn some new cooking techniques to add to your repertoire of tricks. You will find yourself making all sorts of new healthy recipes because you like playing with food and seeing what works.

3. Planning and Shopping for Healthy Food

This is a particularly rewarding experience if you are a planner. You get to plan out your meals, get the ingredients, and make your meals in advance so you aren’t tempted by fast food or unhealthy snacks (if you haven’t already banished them from your kitchen). Shopping is an adventure if you do it right; going to the farmer’s market occasionally or even every week and selecting vegetables you’ve never seen before. You’ll be amazed at how many dyes and preservatives have been used on food when you shop like this. The experience of cooking is so much better when it’s with real, natural food; fresh ingredients that can actually be pronounced.

Things That Make You Hate Healthy Food :

1. You Can’t Find The Ingredients

One of the most important things to do when you decide to eat healthier is to keep track of what you’re eating and what your caloric intake is. This makes it a lot easier for you to find food that fits into your nutritional needs, and helps in balancing out the things that are bad for your health and those that are good. One of the easiest ways to do this is by keeping a food journal.

if you eat healthy, then you just might have a hard time finding foods with some of the ingredients you need (such as veggies or low-fat cheese). This can lead you to becoming frustrated with healthy foods and searching desperately through your cabinets or fridge for something unhealthy.

2. Healthy Food Is Too Expensive

This is a tough one, because healthy food sure is expensive! You have to buy organic if you’re buying anything that has been grown in soil. Even so, that fish fillet you bought at the grocery store was probably still made up of chemicals and probably wasn’t very nutritious. Buying organic foods or even natural foods makes a huge difference in your health, so it is definitely worth the cost.

3. It’s Too Hard to Eat Healthy at Restaurants

This one is a tough one to deal with, because the majority of restaurants and fast food restaurants don’t offer healthy options. But there are ways around this! If you’re going out with friends, choose a restaurant that has at least one or two healthy options on the menu. You can ask the waitress to put your meal in a bowl or on a plate instead of wrapped up in foil and served on a paper towel. And if you start looking for healthy foods, then you’ll find that there are some restaurants (obviously not all) that offer really good salads and low-fat meals.
