Since the last tier list was released, the meta has changed drastically.
The top-tier decks are now more reliant on spells and less on creatures, whereas midrange decks rely heavily on creatures to combat fair strategies.
On the other hand, unfair strategies have shifted towards creature-heavy lists.
To reflect these major changes, several cards were reevaluated and new cards were included in this list.
The rest of the team have had a chance to scrutinise
this new tier list and there are no disagreements that can’t be resolved with discussion or playtesting.
The list is an accurate reflection of the current state of the game, but it will change as new cards are printed or old ones are played less.
We have to take into account how well a card performs in combination with other cards when evaluating it against their power level,
but also when comparing them to other cards that may replace them when they are banned or unbanned.
For example, Vodakombo is an efficient removal spell if your opponent plays creatures,
but it is weaker than Banisher Priest if you play against a spell-heavy deck.
This means that cards have to be evaluated against all decks, taking into account the context in which they are played.
The Tier List will be updated on a biannual basis. In the next tier list, Sobek will be replaced by Necronomicon and then we will update the list again in July of 2020.

Banned and Restricted List Objective: To preserve the integrity of the game and ensure that all players have an equal opportunity to compete.
The Banned and Restricted List is a list of cards that Wizards of the Coast considers too powerful, too disruptive, or simply unbalanced in the current environment.
CARD-BY-CARD ANALYSIS [Wrath of God] By examining the power level and impact of certain cards,
we make judgments about whether or not they fall within these categories. [Lifebane Zombie]
[Breaker of Armies] This card is too powerful for its cost. [Winds of Change] The card is over-centralising in the type of decks it enables.
[Necropotence] This card’s power level is near the top end for its type; it does not feel like excessive value given its cost.
[Cursed Totem] This card’s power level is too disruptive to the format. [Survival of the Fittest] This card is too powerful for its cost.
[Cruel Bargain] The card’s power level is near the top end for its type; it does not feel like excessive value given its cost.
[Mana Crypt] This card’s power level is too disruptive to the format. [Grisly oblivion] The card is over-centralising in the type of decks it enables.
[Toxic Deluge] The card’s power level is too disruptive to the format. [Command Tower] The card’s ability does not feel like it fits with the current metagame.
The Magic Origins set has been out for a couple of weeks now, so I thought it would be another good time to release a new Tier List !
This format update will cover all cards that were printed or changed in this set, as well as the previous one.
